Life in Los Angeles

Yeah, I do have my complaints with the amount of work that students have to take on. It is extremely stressful and time consuming. I kinda lost my mind this semester with the intensity of the workload and juggling my classes with rehearsals and then my poetry workshop.

The stress is worth the things I’m experiencing and learning here. Usually it does. :]

Favorite part has got to be the fact that we’re performing in literally almost every class, in some way or another. The beauty of a performing arts school. :] It keeps you busy and you’re always growing as an artist and refining your craft. 

Least favorite thing as of this semester is the lack of commitment from students in my section. It’s really discouraging to be put with students that don’t wanna do the work or even care about the scene or scene partners and it’s a struggle to still do your best to make the situation work. I don’t understand why some people here if they aren’t going to stay dedicated and committed to this. Ugh, it’s frustrating.

I’m still not so much a fan of acting for camera. I just don’t ever feel like I’m comfortable or know what I’m doing, and that I’m doing it right. It’s so very technical and it kinda goes against the reason why I enjoy theatre - is because with theatre you really get to feel and experience things on stage and as that character. But with film and television, no one cares if you’re “feeling” the emotions or whatever’s going on in the scene, as long as the shot looks good, they’re happy.

This semester I’ve been learning a lot about camera work, though, because my teacher is absolutely brilliant! Everything he says and does makes sense and I understand why he’s one of the most sought out film teachers to study under.
